To address your point, you are half right half off in some respects. By large we don't have a great amount of options to help out pro-Sansha because of high security. GCC rules, rampant NPC murder logic, etc, prove to make it difficult. Hell, even in low security if you repair the actors you lose standings to their NPC corporation because of an old bug. I don't know if they fixed that yet (apparently it exists in FW?).
On the flipside, low security tends to be a near polar opposite in some respect. We get a lot of options, but until the recent advent of cynojamming most low sec events were prone to supercap hotdrop dogpiles. It also deters most high sec people from participating due to PVP, so you end up with a diluted batch of more experienced pilots. A blessing or curse, depending on what you're trying to do. I find it much more thrilling myself when a cloaking Proteus is stalking my Widow around the battlefield.
Really, our best option during the vast majority of the first phase was our local RPing. You're someone who likes to PVP, if I remember, so only offering that option to you on the table might be bland. This time around, I'm not sure how it will go yet - too early to tell.
